Whoa. Not so fast...

Well, I might not be buying a new horse after all.

I'm certainly not completely ruling it out, but it's not looking really feasible right now. It all comes down to money.

Yes, I had a plan to have my friend lease Kaswyn, and that would have been great. But my friend looked at her finances and said she didn't think she could really pull it off. Which made me think - what would I do if I were leasing Kaswyn to anyone, and they had to end the lease? And then what if I couldn't get another person to lease him? I can't afford both horses, and I can't knowingly put my family in a bad financial situation by owning two horses. Basically two luxury items.

I'm still thinking about ways I can make this work, but nothing has been workable so far. I'm not giving up just yet, but I'm not hopeful.

I swear money is the root of all evil; everything "pony" costs money, and unfortunately, they just can't pay their own way anymore : ( Sorry to hear that it's a struggle, but you should be proud that you put your family and Kaswyn first, irrespective of your desires.

Give it time, it'll surely all work out. These things just have 'a way'. : )

I wish I would have thought of that before I bought my second horse and two weeks later the woman leasing them dropped the bomb that she is moving to another state! It will work out for me and you will figure out a way for things to work out for you too. But I applaud you for being more prudent financially. I am kicking myself for not being more prudent (like I usually am) but being impulsive because I was so smitten with my new horse.

Oh, I am SO sorry that all of this has happened to you two Sheri! I'm even sorrier that I can't come up with some kind of brilliant suggestion that solves it all nicely for you *sniffle*.
Have a hug?

I wondered about that.

The prudent thing is always less horses! But we horse people all know that, though we wish it wasn't so.

If this idea falls through, Kaswyn sounds like he is sound enough to keep doing the therapeutic dressage. You might also use time away from showing to do other stuff with Kaswyn--maybe dabble in trail riding, endurance, teeny jumps...

While I think its good to come to grips with the fact he may not be sound enough to show again, there's still challenges you can find for the two of you.

That sucks . . . I know how frustrating finances can be. Makes me want to scream! I hope things work out for you. The young horse sounds so awesome!

Is there anyone you know with a pasture where you could move Kaswyn? I live in the South so there's no problem finding pasture for horses but I know it can be a problem elsewhere. Board is just so expensive. I know I wouldn't be able to afford it. I hope something works out, but I can understand not putting yourself in a scary financial situation.
